Indie pop band Internet Tears has released their brand new single “Death & His Friends.” Girls Sound Off had the pleasure of interviewing the band’s vocalist, Daniel Louis, about the new song, forming the band, and more! Check out the interview below and go stream “Death & His Friends.”
The first is not quite a question, but I would love to know how Internet Tears was formed.
Internet Tears was created and established by me, Daniel Louis. Over years of being the vocalist of a band, and contributing my writing skills towards a collective sound, I decided that I wanted to create and produce music completely on my own. I felt most passionate about creating over anything, and Internet Tears and the music that is made really is from the passion of creating. Zack Apuzzo was the first addition to the band as drummer and Esteban Rivera and Chris “Leap Frog” Jones joined the official line up for bass and guitar in 2023.
Can you talk a bit about what inspired you to write “Death & His Friends” and what the song is about?
One of my favorite vocalists is Garrett Garfield, who was in many bands but was most well known for Death and All His Friends, an up-and-coming indie pop-rock band from Utah. The cool thing about it was that Garrett and I became very well acquainted, and then good friends. Unfortunately, Garrett passed away in 2020 and left me and many fans and family devastated. I wanted to write a song in loving memory of Garrett Garfield to have instances like this interview to talk about who he was and why this song is so special to the band.
This is your first release with Black Barrel Records. How has the experience been working with them to release this song?
When making the decision to sign with Black Barrel Records, we really felt confident in the collaboration between the label and band; we knew that they understood the vision of the song, as well as the band. So working in the studio with them has been seamless and going in a great direction. “Death & His Friends” is truly enhanced by Black Barrel Records with new quality and clarity added to the mix.
You have coined the phrase “indie pop sadness” to describe your sound. Are there any artists or bands you have drawn inspiration from to create that sound?
Yes, for sure. We write from the gut. If we’re going through a mental breakdown, we pick up a guitar and start writing. If we’re depressed and feel hopeless, writing a song helps release some emotions. A lot of our influences are quite emotional people. Matty Healy from The 1975 and Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees to name a few.
What else can we expect from Internet Tears in 2024?
A grand introduction: We have a few songs out right now with music videos, but you should expect much more this year, and with the help of Black Barrel Records to take the production to the next level for sure. We’re always creating more songs, music videos, merch and content year-round.
