Phatt James: “Seven Days” Music Video & Interview

Connecticut-based alternative pop-rock band Phatt James recently released their brand new music video for their song “Seven Days.” Girls Sound Off got to speak with the band’s guitarist/vocalist, Matt James, about the storyline of the video, filming in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and more! Give the video a watch, and read our interview below.

Can you talk about why you chose “Seven Days” as the first song off of your album, Just Begun, to shoot a music video for?

I’d love to see so many of our songs in this art form. “Seven Days” fit really well with the idea that Connor and Matt from Kicker Pictures had for a storyline.  I don’t remember who exactly decided it would be the song, but it was never questioned because it just fit, lyrically and sonically.

How did the storyline of the modern-day Cupid losing his passion for his work come about?

So, we really just made the music and after holding onto a Kicker Pictures business card for the length of the recording of the album, I reached out to them. I think I asked them what song they’d like to do from the album and they had this Cupid idea for a music video that they’d been holding onto for a while, and they wanted to make it happen on “Seven Days.” We were honored and loved the spin on the classic tale. We added some of our own ideas here and there, like that incredible suit jacket I still have, but the story goes to Kicker Pictures, and we are super grateful to work with a creative and talented duo, Connor and Matt. I think there is a lot of connection between the song and the story of our video even though they were not conceived because of one or the other. We just had these kind of puzzle pieces and put them together.

Why did you choose the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, CT to shoot the music video?

Black Rock is already on the map with some incredible artists frequently in the area, but we’re trying to grow it even more. It’s a great little hub of quality live music and just a cool part of town. It fit for the vibe and the scenes we needed as well.

What was it like working with Kicker Pictures to film the music video?

Incredible. I’m grateful to have stayed connected with them. They were super professional and very chill. We had a blast watching it all play out as Connor and Matt did their thing. Gathering actors and actresses and seeing these scenes come to life was something else. I like that this song has a story like that. Also, Connor and Matt are super dedicated to their vision and craft and will gladly go the extra way to make their product the best they can. I like that about them.

Can we expect more visuals to be created for any of the other songs on the album?

Definitely. “Quick to Notice” for sure. Maybe “Ahead of Line,” but I honestly would like to make them for all the songs. I know that’s not the norm, but I love visuals alongside our music. We’ll definitely do some more, not sure how many.
