Leah Mason’s “Klepto” is the Perfect Friendship Breakup Anthem

I’ve always been a firm believer that the world needs more friendship breakup songs. Leah Mason gives us exactly that with her new single, “Klepto,” which was released today, April 12th.

“Klepto” tells the story of a friend who maliciously mimics every aspect of Mason’s life. The song starts off with the lyrics “Swear you only want things just because they’re mine / If I say I like him, then he turns into your type / Happens every time.” Mason gets clever in the second verse when she sings “You bleached your hair blonde / You even got my haircut / It doesn’t even look hot / But you just want what I got.” She switches up the rhythm of those lyrics, and it is a moment I look forward to every time I listen.

The production on the song is just as solid as the lyrics. A pulsing beat drives the entire song and feels like pure adrenaline coursing through your veins. I’m not joking when I say I feel like I can run a marathon when the chorus hits. The stacked vocals on the lyrics “God, you’re such a copycat / You’re such a kleptomaniac” give the song an anthemic feel. Everything about “Klepto” is irresistibly captivating.

Mason made the decision to break away from the country sound of her 2023 debut EP, Honeydew & Hennessy, and jump into the world of pop music. In order to fully get out of her comfort zone, Mason ventured to Sweden to create her new sound and her upcoming album. “Klepto” is proof that Mason is meant for pop music. I cannot wait to hear all of her future releases. If you enjoy “Klepto,” you can listen to Mason’s first pop release “YOUR BOYFRIEND SUCKS” which was (fittingly) released this past Galentine’s Day, February 13th.
