On April 25th, Nightly brought their Live on Tour 2025 to the Thunderbird Café and Music Hall in Pittsburgh, PA with Brooke Alexx and MICO as openers.
Brooke Alexx kicked off the show, and stole the crowd’s heart. There were multiple people in the audience who knew every word and brought an insane amount of energy. Alexx sang many of her hits including “Younger Guys,” “Stepping Stone,” and “All My Exes’ Moms.” She is absolutely adorable on stage, smiling so wide as if she’s never been happier. She just started her Big(ger) Mouth headline tour, and added some new dates, so make sure to check out if she’s stopping somewhere near you!
On next was MICO. I first heard of MICO a couple of years ago when his song “Cut My Hair” came up in on Spotify, so I was super excited to see him live for the first time. He mentioned being slightly uncomfortable on stage since he didn’t have his band with him, but I hardly noticed any of the discomfort. His presence commanded the stage, and it was evident he had many fans in attendance. His setlist included many of my favorite songs like “Homesick,” “glhf <3,” and “I’d Hate to Be My Friend.” Pittsburgh absolutely loves MICO which means he needs to come back asap. MICO also announced more shows on his Internet Hometown Hero World Tour, so definitely check those out and see if he will be in your area!
Finally, Nightly took the stage opening with their song “TV Shows.” When I noticed this was the opener, I was originally shocked but then immediately understood why. This song is one of my favorites off of their latest record, Songs to Drive to, because it is Nightly at their core. It’s upbeat while still maintaining a mellow vibe to the production.
About halfway through the set, the band decided to take a moment to bring some Nashville to Pittsburgh by doing an acoustic “writer’s round” and letting the audience choose which two songs would be performed this way. The audience had a choice between “Younger” and “Older,” screaming the loudest for them to play “Older.” After that song, someone shouted for “No Vacancy,” and singer Jonathan Capeci immediately chose that as the next song.
The energy Pittsburgh gave that entire night was amazing. Capeci stated that it had been one of his favorite shows of tour thus far and that he was going to make sure the band continues to come back in the future.
I had the privilege of getting to meet the band’s manager, Nikki Boon, during the show. She asked me to meet her off to the side of the venue during the song “Twenty Something.” For the next (and last) song of the set (“Where Do We Go From Here”), Boon led me backstage and to the stage door. I was allowed to take photos from the stage during the entire last song. Back in 2016/2017, I worked a retail job where I would play Nightly’s song “XO” over the store speakers every shift, so it was a dream to be given the opportunity to take photos on stage. I got some of my favorite shots I’ve ever taken from those couple of minutes, and I’m eternally grateful to the band and Boon for being so sweet.
This lineup was phenomenal, and it was a night I won’t ever forget. If you haven’t listened to Brooke Alexx, MICO, or Nightly yet, you NEED to check them all out. You can also check out photos from the show in the gallery below!
